YOUNG BANTAMS WIN AT GRIMSBY

1 March 2021

City’s under-18s condemned Grimsby Town to their first league defeat of the season, with a 1-0 triumph in the EFL Youth Alliance North East division.

Connor Morris’ second-half goal was enough for the young Bantams to gain all three points at Grimsby's Cheapside training base.

The first opportunity of the contest came when the ball fell to Bobby Pointon on the edge of the 18-yard box, however his left-footed effort was pushed out for a corner by Patrick Boyes.

The visitors went close again when Cole Roberts’ cross was poked just wide of the goal by Morris.

There were no further chances in the opening 45 minutes as the game remained goalless heading into the interval.

City opened the scoring just before the hour mark, when Olivier Sukiennicki’s through ball found Morris - who finished confidently past the goalkeeper.

The Mariners’ best chance to find an equaliser came in second-half stoppage-time when the ball was cut back to substitute Callum Stratton, but his shot flew over the crossbar.

The Bantams successfully saw the game out and claimed an impressive victory to end Grimsby’s unbeaten league run.
