ADAMS DEMANDS WINNING MENTALITY

25 November 2021

Derek Adams has called for his side to demonstrate a winning mentality at the Sands Venue Stadium - ahead of his side's trip to Scunthorpe United on Saturday.

Adams insists the Bantams must call on a positive attitude in order to gain three points in this weekend's clash.

The Scot highlighted the need for winners in a dressing room if a team is to earn promotion, and wants his players to tap into the supporters’ desire to win at Glanford Park.

He said: “You need winners to get out of any league. You need them throughout the changing room and in the backroom staff. It is all about having a winning mentality throughout the team.

“The supporters have got that winning mentality for the team to do well, we just need more of it.

“You are never going to get 11 players with that mentality. You need a variety of characters in the squad, but we need more players to have that winning mindset.

“It takes time to get that ethos in place.”

Adams also suggested his side must show their opponents respect this weekend, due to the close nature of the division.

The City chief insisted they have to be on form to win any game in Sky Bet League Two, and must therefore turn chances into goals to pick up the points they require.

He added: “We will go there and attack them, to make chances for ourselves and try to be better in front of goal.

“We did not create enough chances or have enough shots on goal this Tuesday, which has to be different this weekend.

“Leyton Orient were expected to go to Scunthorpe and get a win, but came away with a 1-1 draw. That is the nature of the league, it is very tight.

“Hopefully we can go there and pick up the three points that we need to get us further up the league.”
