BANTAMS BEATEN ON THE ROAD

23 November 2021

The Bantams fell to their first defeat in seven games at Prenton Park, losing 2-1 to Tranmere Rovers.

Two goals in quick succession at the start of the second half were enough to cancel out Levi Sutton’s opener, as the Bantams left Merseyside empty handed.

It was the hosts who had the first chance of the game as an inswinging corner was diverted goalwards and past Richard O’Donnell, but the effort was met by Lee Angol who cleared off the line.

The Bantams responded swiftly to Rovers’ early effort. Elliot Watt’s free-kick was nodded towards goal by Yann Songo'o, but flew narrowly wide.

City stepped up the pressure on the back of their opening chance and were rewarded for their efforts when Levi Sutton broke the deadlock in fantastic fashion on 26 minutes.

A neat exchange of passes and mazy run opened an angle for the midfielder, who struck his left-footed effort into the roof of Ross Doohan’s net.

Rovers came closest to getting the next goal as Nicky Maynard pinched the ball off the onrushing Richard O’Donnell and looked certain to level the scoring, until Songo’o slid to block the ball at full stretch to keep City a goal up at half-time.

The hosts came out with their tails up in the second half, and equalised through Kieron Morris’ long-range strike shortly after the restart.

It did not take lomg thereafter for Paul Glatzel to add a second and put his side in front, on the 56th minute.

A cross from Josh Dacres-Cogley was not cleared by the Bantams backline, allowing Glatzel to tap home.

The Bantams could not respond to Rovers’ second half goals and their unbeaten run came to an end.
