CITY FIGHT BACK TO EARN A POINT

20 November 2021

The Bantams made it six games unbeaten at the Utilita Energy Stadium, with a 1-1 draw against high-flying Northampton Town.

Charles Vernam's goal 23 minutes from time ensured City would take a point from the encounter, after Mitch Pinnock had given the Cobblers the lead.

It was the Bantams who started a scrappy first half the brightest, with a flurry of chances falling their way.

Callum Cooke came closest to opening the scoring after his speculative effort forced a save out of Liam Roberts - who parried wide at full stretch.

Vernam had the best chance when latching onto Elliot Watt's through ball, but the winger was rushed by the Cobblers goalkeeper Liam Roberts who managed to force a corner.

A series of half-chances fell both ways but neither side could find the net, sending them in level at the break.

It was the hosts who opened the scoring in the second half. Mitch Pinnock reacted quickest after City’s free-kick was cleared, driving the ball down the wing before slotting it beyond Richard O’Donnell.

The Bantams hit back swiftly, though, after substitute Caolan Lavery powered through the Cobblers defence and squared the ball to Vernam who made no mistake, placing his effort calmly beyond Roberts.

City pushed for the winner, with the Lavery having the best chance, but he was unable to keep it below the crossbar and the game ended all square.
