CITY MATCHED BY EXETER IN THE CUP

6 November 2021

The Bantams will travel to Exeter City for an Emirates FA Cup first-round replay, following a 1-1 draw at the Utilita Energy Stadium.

Sam Nombe's late equaliser meant the Grecians will welcome City to St James Park on Tuesday November 16.

The Bantams had the best chances of the opening 25 minutes, when Charles Vernam's effort swerved just wide of Cameron Dawson’s goal, before Theo Robinson struck the crossbar.

Robinson did break the deadlock before the half-hour mark though, when he latched onto Vernam's pinpoint pass to finish on his full City debut.

Vernam came close to doubling the hosts' advantage before the break - fizzing an effort goalward from the edge of the box, but his shot was parried to keep the margin to one at the interval.

The West Yorkshire side had a number of chances to put themselves out of sight in the second period.

Levi Sutton struck the woodwork, before two heroic saves a few minutes later kept Elliot Watt and Oscar Threlkeld out.

Exeter forced a save from Richard O’Donnell, as Jevani Brown found himself in space in the City box but his strike was matched by the No.1.

City looked to be seeing the game out, however they equalised with five minutes to go, to force a replay, as Sam Nombe turned a low cross into the City goal to draw level.
