OPPOSITION GUIDE: NORTHAMPTON TOWN

19 November 2021

The Bantams are back in Sky Bet League Two action this weekend as they welcome Northampton Town for a 3.00pm kick-off on Saturday.

Jon Brady’s men will make the 138-mile journey after their midweek Emirates FA Cup defeat to Cambridge United.

The Cobblers sit fourth after an impressive start to life back in the division, following their relegation from Sky Bet League One in the 2020/21 season. Northampton have conceded the second-fewest goals in the league, just 13 across 16 games.

We have put together an Opposition Guide to give you all the information you need to know about our 17th league opponent of the season.

TRANSFER ACTIVITY

The Cobblers brought 10 players into the club this summer, with eight departing.

INCOMINGS: Jon Guthrie (Livingston), Dylan Connolly (St. Mirren), Nicke Kabamba (Kilmarnock), Mitch Pinnock (Kilmarnock), Aaron McGowan (Kilmarnock), Dominic Reven (Aston Villa, loan), Jordan Flores (Hull City), Sid Nelson (Tranmere), Liam Roberts (Walsall), Kion Etete (Tottenham, loan).

OUTGOINGS: Cian Bolger (Larne), Mark Marshall (free agent), Lloyd Jones (Cambridge), Alan Sheehan (Oldham), Steve Arnold (Southend), Alex Jones (free agent), Ryan Watson (Tranmere), Harry Smith (Leyton Orient).

ONES TO WATCH

Kion Etete

The Tottenham Hotspur loanee has featured in 15 league games since joining the club in the summer, scoring twice.

Etete started his career with Notts County - making his first-team debut at 16 before joining Spurs in 2019.

The 19-year-old netted nine goals for Tottenham’s under-23s side last season and has found his feet in the professional game since joining the Cobblers.

Fraser Horsfall

Horsfall has been a mainstay of the Cobblers' efficient defence this season, playing 15 of 16 games - missing their 3-1 defeat to Rochdale.

The 25-year-old’s inclusion in the squad warrants his side’s position on the ‘goals conceded’ charts.

The former Huddersfield man was signed in the summer of 2020, after an impressive spell with Mansfield Town.

Sam Hoskins

Sam Hoskins has netted five league goals this season, making him the Cobblers joint-top goal-scorer.

Hailing from Southampton’s prestigious academy, Hoskins joined Northampton in 2015 after a successful trial spell.

The 28-year-old scored in the Cobblers' Sky Bet League Two Play-Off Final victory against Exeter City.

CAPTAIN

Joseph Mills captains Northampton, having joined the club in the summer of 2020 following a spell with Forest Green Rovers.

Another graduate of Southampton’s academy, Mills had spells with Reading and Burnley before spending two years in Australia with Perth Glory.

Mills operates primarily as a left-back but is comfortable playing on the left of midfield and has amassed over 300 senior appearances, scoring 17 goals.

MANAGER

Jon Brady is the man in charge at the Northampton Town Stadium after earning his stripes at Brackley Town and in charge of The Cobblers' under-16 and under-18 outfits.

Brady spent his playing days fluctuating between the EFL and non-league before his eventual move into management.

Australian-born Brady took over the managerial position initially on an interim basis before he was appointed manager in March this year.
