BANTAMS BACK TO WINNING WAYS

2 October 2021

City returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Rochdale in Sky Bet League Two.

A goal in each half from Alex Gilliead and Andy Cook saw the Bantams remain unbeaten at the Utilita Energy Stadium in the league this season.

The first chance of the game fell City’s way, when Levi Sutton fizzed the ball across the six-yard box but it was turned away by the Dale defence as Cook was lurking.

The Bantams came close again on the half-hour mark - this time with Charles Vernam striding in from the left before getting a shot off which found the side-netting.

City took the lead on the 37th minute after Alex Gillead pounced on a loose ball to slot home, after Levi Sutton's shot was saved.

Charles Vernam's darting run into the box led to penalty appeals just before the break, after he went down under pressure, but the referee dismissed the claims and City ended the half a goal up.

Danny Cashman went close for the visitors twice in quick succession after the interval - but both opportunities were squandered.

After an end-to-end second period, Sutton earned the Bantams a penalty after he was brought down in the box following a bursting run into the area.

Andy Cook stepped up and made no mistake - as City’s No.9 slotted home and celebrated his fourth goal of the season in front of The Kop.

Substitute Theo Robinson came close to putting the icing on the cake in added time - but his shot drifted just wide of the post and City settled for a 2-0 victory.
