CITY HELD TO NEWPORT STALEMATE

9 October 2021

The Bantams shared the spoils with Newport County, with a 0-0 stalemate at Rodney Parade.

Both sides created opportunities to win the game, but it ended goalless in Sky Bet League Two.

City had the first chance when Andy Cook’s strike forced Joe Day into a smart stop with his feet.

Newport then came close to taking the lead when a brilliant last-ditch challenge from Paudie O’Connor denied Courtney Baker-Richardson from striking just before half-time.

City won a corner early on in the second half which was met by Yann Songo’o, but was well saved by Day who tipped it over the bar.

The Exiles then went close on the hour mark when Baker-Richardson’s looping header beat O'Donnell but hit the underside of the crossbar and was headed off the line heroically by Songo'o.

Just minutes later, Newport hit the bar again from James Clarke’s header, which the Bantams were able to clear it away.

Both sides pushed for a late winner, though neither proved able to find the back of the net, meaning City made the trip back up to West Yorkshire with a point.
