Goal-scorer Alex Gilliead was thrilled with the Bantams’ “massive” 2-0 triumph over Rochdale.

City netted a goal in each half which proved enough for Derek Adams’ side to see off the Greater Manchester outfit at the Utilita Energy Stadium.

Gilliead felt it was important for the Bantams to return to winning ways and is hopeful they can now put together a positive run of results.

He said: “It was a massive win. Coming off the back four or five poor results, this was something we needed.

“We played with different personnel, and I thought everyone did very well.

“In recent weeks, we have not been at our best, but we have still been creating chances and could have picked up better results if we had have taken them.

“Rochdale are a good side who will be up there come the end of the season.

“The win was certainly needed and, hopefully, we can go on a bit of a run, now.”

Gilliead also confessed his delight at netting his first goal since returning to the club.

The midfielder struck for the first time in a City shirt since New Year’s Day in 2018, and now has his sights on finding the net on a more regular basis.

He added: “Scoring goals is something I need to improve on, and I know that.

“It was massive for us to score the first goal in the game and, hopefully, I can go on to get some more as well now.

“We do get a lot of chances in this team, but sometimes we do not put them away.

“This game showed that, when we do put them away, we are a very good team.

“Like I have said before, it is massive to have the fans behind us.

“I think they appreciated the way we played. We took the game to Rochdale and created a lot of chances.

“When the stadium is rocking like that, it is a tough place to come for other teams, and that will help us massively throughout the season.”

Gilliead and his team-mates return to the Utilita Energy Stadium on Saturday October 16 - against Bristol Rovers. CLICK HERE to purchase tickets.
