OPPOSITION GUIDE: HARTLEPOOL UNITED

18 October 2021

The Bantams will be looking to extend their unbeaten home league run when welcoming Hartlepool United for a 7.45pm kick off in Sky Bet League Two.

Hartlepool began the season well - winning three from five in August. Since then they have dropped out of the play-offs and sit a place below City in the table.

We have put together an Opposition Guide to give you all the information you need to know about our 13th opponent of the season.

ONES TO WATCH

Tyler Burey

Burey joined Pools on loan this summer and has netted three times since his move from East London.

The Millwall loanee had not scored a professional goal before signing for the Monkey Hangers - but Burey hit the ground running in the North East, assisting the winner on his debut.

Luke Molyneux

Molyneux joined Pools during the summer of 2019 - having impressed on-loan from Sunderland the season prior.

Despite his successful loan spell, Molyneux struggled to recapture his form after suffering an injury in pre-season last year.

The 23-year-old has been a mainstay in the Monkey Hangers' team this season - featuring 12 times and netting twice from the wing.

Joe Grey

The 18-year-old starlet is the pride of Pools’ academy - having made his debut for the side at just 17.

Grey has made four appearances for Pools this season and started in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat away at Salford.

CAPTAIN

Club captain Nicky Featherstone has played every minute of the Monkey Hangers' Sky Bet League Two campaign.

Featherstone leads his side from the centre of the park - operating primarily in the No.8 role and has contributed with one goal and one assist in the league.

The Pools skipper is the longest-serving player at the club, having signed for them in 2014.

MANAGER

Dave Challinor took charge at Victoria Park in 2019 and led Hartlepool to promotion in his second season in charge.

During his playing days, Challinor spent the majority of his career in the North West of England - featuring as a defender for Tranmere, Stockport and Bury.

His managerial career began at Colwyn Bay where he featured as a player-coach before retiring from football to take up the manager’s role.

Challinor spent eight years in charge of AFC Fylde before joining the Monkey Hangers.
