Match Previews

20 September 2021

The Bantams will continue their Papa John’s Trophy campaign at the Utilita Energy Stadium against Manchester United’s under-21s side, at 7.00pm tomorrow evening.

This is the second season the Red Devils youth outfit has competed in the competition, and it will spell the first time the two teams have faced each other.

We have created a Big Match Preview to give you all the key details you need to know, heading into the encounter.

City: Derek Adams is expected to rotate his squad, following Saturday's 1-1 draw with Barrow.

The Bantams will once again be without Abo Eisa, Lee Angol and captain Niall Canavan due to their respective injuries.

Tuesday's fixture presents a potential opportunity for Jorge Sikora, Kian Scales and Reece Staunton to make their first appearances in City colours this season.

The clash may also be the stage for full debuts for forwards Caolan Lavery and Theo Robinson.

United: The Red Devils will be without the suspended Hanibal Mejbri following his 91st-minute dismissal in their 3-2 defeat to Lincoln City.

Charlie McNeil will be looking to make successive starts in the competition, following his switch from local rivals Manchester City.

Derek Adams: “We will make a few changes. We did not do it last time because of the strong opposition we were up against in Lincoln City, but will make changes to the team on Tuesday ahead of the Crawley game.”

City supporters unable to make it to the Utilita Energy Stadium will be able to catch the encounter with an iFollow video match pass.

The pass - available for £10 - will ensure supporters do not miss a minute of the action, with build-up beginning from 6.00pm.

Anthony Backhouse is set to take charge of his eighth game of the season - but his first in the Papa John's Trophy.

Mr Backhouse’s most recent game at the Utilita Energy Stadium came on April 2 last season, where he oversaw the Bantams' 4-1 victory over Forest Green Rovers.

The officials joining him will be David Avent and Matthew Parry on the flanks - with Gary Hilton alongside them as the fourth official.

City supporters can back their team for victory tomorrow evening with Sky Bet.

Derek Adams’ team are currently priced at 6/5 to come out on top in the contest.
