YOUNG BANTAMS BAG FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

15 September 2021

City’s under-19s came from behind to earn an emphatic 5-1 victory over Burton Albion in the EFL Youth Alliance North East Division.

The young Bantams bagged their first victory of the 2021/22 campaign at their Woodhouse Grove base, thanks to two first-half strikes and a further three goals after the interval, following a break in fixtures.

It was the Brewers who took the lead with 10 minutes on the clock, when a cross-cum-shot flew over goalkeeper Tom Webster and found the back of the net.

City levelled the scoring when a cross into the penalty area was struck into the top corner by Bobby Pointon.

Skipper Charlie Wood then went on to give the hosts the lead, after embarking on a promising run before hitting his left-footed effort into the back of the net - ensuring his side took an advantage into the interval.

Shortly after the restart, the Bantams added their third, when Pointon picked out Cole Roberts who calmly slotted the ball beyond the goalkeeper.

Martin Drury’s side scored another when a swift counter attack ended with Jack Wilson setting up Roberts, who neatly dinked the ball over the keeper to score his second of the game.

The Bantams then put the icing on the cake when Jay Tinsdale played in fellow substitute Dylan Youmbi - who produced a composed left-footed finish to seal the three points.
