CHARLOTTE STUART APPOINTED NEW WOMEN’S MANAGER

5 August 2022

Bradford City AFC is delighted to announce the appointment of Charlotte Stuart, as new women’s first-team manager.

Last season’s assistant manager, who will be joined in the dugout by former under-23s coach Gareth Davis, will take charge of the female Bantams on a player-coach basis, having first arrived at the club as a junior 18 years ago.

Stuart was a part of the women’s side that beat West Yorkshire rivals Leeds United at the University of Bradford Stadium last season, while serving as assistant to former manager Chris Hames - who earlier this summer departed for Hull City.

She said: “It is a proud moment to be handed the job and I am looking forward to continuing in a player-manager role.

“I have experience of similar roles in the division above and have spent some time away from Bradford City over the past few years as well, so hopefully I can help get us to where we need to be.

“Myself and Gareth know what we want to do, have a great relationship with the players, and have a good understanding of the club and the culture.

“The game against Leeds last year, with the fans here, was an exciting experience for everyone, and we are looking to keep creating memories like that.

“Bradford is a great city and, with everything the women’s Euros have brought, the female game is absolutely buzzing. We want to be able to inspire the youth and this generation into playing football.”

Women's chairman Qasim Akhtar said: “I am delighted with this appointment. We have staged a thorough recruitment process and, when Charlotte and Gaz put their names forward, it really added to the strong calibre of candidates we already had.

“From the beginning, we were adamant on bringing someone in who fits the culture of the club and what we have built over the past few years. This was something these two really brought to the table.

“Our season starts in just over a couple of weeks, but we have been preparing since the end of June, so things can now continue to progress as we keep working towards that opening fixture.”
