GILLIEAD POSITIVE AHEAD OF COLCHESTER

Alex Gilliead wants to remain calm and ensure City do “not get carried away”, ahead of tonight's trip to Colchester United.

Gillead hopes the momentum built in the last seven days can ensure improvements away from home, and the 26-year-old believes the Bantams' experienced and hungry squad is ready to challenge.

He said: “The mood in the camp is positive. Getting that first win breaks that duck, so we are just looking forward to the games coming up and getting more points.

“Hopefully, we can go to Colchester and start the game positively like we did on Saturday. Going away in this league is always tough, but we want to build some momentum, so we need to put another good performance in if we want to climb the table.

“Everyone on Saturday saw the squad is coming together, how it is gelling and how everyone plays. I think playing together, and the system we are in, will do us the world of good.

“We have a lot more experience in the squad, and that has helped us. The expectation of the club will always be there, and the lads we have brought in can manage that.

“With the two wins, we should not be getting carried away. In this league, you can shoot yourself in the foot if you get ahead of yourself. We have a good squad, and once we properly click, we are confident will do really well.

Gilliead has taken up a deeper role since Mark Hughes arrived at the club and admits that, although a surprise, he is relishing playing alongside captain Richie Smallwood and being more involved in the play.

He added: “I really enjoy it. I get on the ball and affect the game a lot more, when I am in that position.

“Last year, when the gaffer and Glyn came in, they both asked me if I would like playing further back. I said I would try it, and I feel I have done well.

“I love getting stuck in and making tackles, and doing that, while playing well and winning games, feels good.

“It is great playing alongside Richie. I get on really well with him, so it is fun playing alongside him.

“He has played at a high level, so I can learn from him. Over the past two games, we have done well, so can hopefully continue that.

“Last year against Colchester, we really did not show up and I think the scoreline reflected that. This time around, we are going there, it is early in the season, and we want to do well.

“We are expecting a tough game. They have not won yet this year, so we have got to make sure we are not the ones that are beaten.

“We have a spring in our step so we can go there, put in a good performance and hopefully get a good result.”
