Liam Ridehalgh praised his and his team-mates' performance in their 2-0 victory over Newport County, which saw the Bantams pick up back-to-back league clean sheets at the University of Bradford Stadium.

Goals from Richie Smallwood and Harry Chapman secured City’s first three points of the Sky Bet League Two campaign on a blisteringly hot day in West Yorkshire.

The full-back, who was also part of the side's Carabao Cup first-round victory against Hull City on Tuesday night, lauded the squad and believes it is important to maintain the momentum.

Ridehalgh said: “It was a great performance on Tuesday night and we followed it up here with a great victory. We have got our first win in the league, so can push on from here.

“I felt the defence played really well today. We got forward when we can, and got the clean sheet, so I could not be happier.”

The former Tranmere Rovers left-back feels the victory, seen by over 16,500 supporters, will give the Bantams that all-important momentum booster, but he also insisted the side need to maintain their composure.

“Our fans are unbelievable. They come in numbers and spark us, from first minute to the last. We are very grateful for them, and they can keep us going.

“We do need to be better in certain situations, particularly when we get out wide.

“It is about making sure that last pass is always accurate so we can be even more creative, and that is what we will be looking to do next week.”
