BANTAMS BEATEN BY EXETER

12 February 2022

The Bantams fell to defeat at the Utilita Energy Stadium, losing 1-0 to high-flying Exeter City.

Kieran Phillips’ goal just before half-time was enough to secure the away side the victory.

In an opening period where City enjoyed several bright spells, the first chance of the game fell the away side's way.

Jevani Brown was played through on goal, but Alex Bass was out quickly to block his effort.

In the 26th minute, former Bantam Timothee Dieng was left unmarked in the box, however he was unable to get his header on target and convert a good opportunity.

Just minutes later City had their first real chance when Levi Sutton had space to shoot on the edge of the box. His shot skidded inches wide, in what proved to be the closest Derek Adams' side came.

On the brink of half-time, Exeter took the lead when Kieran Phillips chipped the ball over Bass after good work from Jevanin Brown, to take the Grecians in ahead at the break.

At the very start of the second half, Sutton again had space on the edge of the area to shoot but his effort was held by Dawson.

Just minutes later Brown dribbled round Bass and looked certain to score, but was thwarted by a vital Yann Songo’o block, who heroically denied a second.

Minutes later, Jake Caprice had space to shoot from distance but his curling effort was well saved by Bass.

After Jevani Brown had missed another good opening for Matt Taylor's men, it was City who threw bodies forward in search of an equaliser, though were not able to find a breakthrough, and left empty handed.
