ADAMS LOOKING TO BUILD ON WINNING START TO 2022

6 January 2022

Derek Adams is determined for his side to continue their winning start to the calendar year, ahead of Saturday's trip to Carlisle United.

Last weekend’s victory at Barrow means the Bantams have a 100% record in 2022, and Adams believes City can use the victory as a platform to build on for the remainder of the season.

The Scot hopes the gritty performance that earned his side victory on New Year’s Day is a sign of things to come, as he looks towards his side's second trip to Cumbria in as many weeks.

He said: “It was an excellent performance last weekend. To go to Barrow after the difficulties we have had, it was very pleasing to get the three points.

“I think it shows how well we can do. We have another trip to Cumbria to face Carlisle, and we will go there on the back of a good win.

“We know our league record is three defeats in 15 games. We want to continue our form and keep winning games.

“Carlisle have a good pitch and we have over 1,000 fans making the trip with us, so it should be a good test.”

Adams also discussed the importance of recovery and having a fully-fit squad, as the Bantams head into a busy second half of the campaign.

The City boss confessed his squad is still recovering from the impact of COVID-19 cases over Christmas, but the return of injured players - along with the loan signing of Dion Pereira - affords him options to choose from.

He added: “We had a couple of players feeling the effects after the Barrow game, but they have all come back to training this week and are getting better by the day.

“You always want your best players available for selection, and we have had our injury problems for a long period, but the only one who is out for a while now is Abo Eisa.

“If you look at the charts, we do better when certain players are on the pitch. We should have near enough a full squad by next week.

“Dion is one I wanted in summer, and we have got him in now. It is better to get them in January as they will not be recalled if they have a good start.”
