ADAMS PRAISES CITY RESILIENCE

1 January 2022

Derek Adams highlighted the growth in mentality of his squad, after his side took all three points from Barrow on New Year’s Day.

After over three weeks since the Bantams last took the field, Adams was quick to hail City's strong mentality to overcome the enforced break and start 2022 victorious.

The returning Bantams endured a difficult test at Holker Street, but held on to the points thanks to resilient defending, and Adams celebrated the mental aptitude his men displayed.

He said: “The players showed there is a great mentality throughout the squad.

“This is a difficult place to come at the best of times, as Barrow play with a lot of freedom. I believe that we are showing a greater mentality.

“There were three or four times towards the end of the match where we had counter-attacking opportunities, but we just did not have the legs to get there.

“When they were trying to make those runs, their lungs were stopping them, but the character throughout the squad was excellent and the players really stood up to the occasion.”

Adams was also quick to acknowledge the strength in numbers displayed by the travelling City supporters.

644 Bantams made the New Year’s trip to Barrow-in-Furness to cheer their team to victory, and Adams was pleased to send them home happy.

He added: “The lucky ones that got to be here today got to come and see their team play with that kind of passion. It is what every Bradford fan wants to see.

“We had a magnificent following today, and could have brought a lot more.

“They backed us from the first minute, and will be delighted to go into 2022 with a victory.”
