Derek Adams is relishing the competition for places in City's side, ahead of Saturday's trip to Rochdale.
Adams is confident the arrivals of Dion Pereira, Jamie Walker and Matty Daly - along with players returning to full fitness - has increased the competitive nature of the squad.
The City boss looked ahead to a packed match schedule and emphasised the need for competition to avoid complacency, with all players now fighting for their spot in the team.
He said: “We have added to our attacking options and there is now a real competition for places.
“Players that have previously been a mainstay in the team will have to compete for their spots. It will either improve their game, or their place will be taken.
“We have brought in three players who are ready to play in the first team. Everyone will have to step up their game.
“There are lots of games to come, and therefore lots of points to play for, so having strength in depth is important. We have players who will struggle to get into the matchday squad, but that is a good thing.”
Adams also looked ahead to the second half of the season, highlighting the importance of momentum if City are to make a push for promotion.
The City chief believes that the rapid turnaround of games gives his side the opportunity to leapfrog the teams above them and put pressure on the top seven.
He added: “We are in a position where we are chasing the teams ahead of us.
“That is not a bad position to be in. You would obviously like to have the points, but when you are chasing teams, they begin to look over their shoulder and get nervous.
“The games will come thick and fast now. You will see a lot of teams in a better position than others in a few weeks' time.
“We are taking a huge following to Rochdale and can hopefully carry the momentum from last weekend into the game.”
