BIG MATCH PREVIEW: CARLISLE v CITY

7 January 2022

The Bantams are on the road this Saturday with a second trip to Cumbria in as many weeks - this time to face Carlisle United at 3.00pm in Sky Bet League Two.

The two sides sit seven points apart in the Sky Bet League Two table, with nine places between them.

The Blues will come into the clash full of confidence after two vital wins on the road against Stevenage and Scunthorpe. The results put three points between the Cumbrians and the relegation zone, with a game in hand on both opponents.

Meanwhile, City will be looking to continue their winning start to 2022, after the Bantams left Cumbria with three points on New Year’s Day - beating Barrow 2-1 after a three-week absence.

We have created a Big Match Preview to give you all the key details you need to know, heading into the encounter.

TEAM NEWS

City: Abo Eisa will miss the clash as he continues his recovery from the hamstring surgery he underwent before Christmas, and remains City's only long-term absentee.

Captain Niall Canavan has served his one-match suspension but is unavailable for the clash, according to Derek Adams.

New signing Dion Pereira will be available for selection after joining the club on Tuesday,

Carlisle: Zach Clough looks set to miss the clash after a recurring calf injury forced him off during The Blues' Emirates FA Cup clash with Shrewsbury.

New signings Omari Patrick, Tyrese Omotoye and Joel Senior will be at Keith Millen’s disposal, following their moves to Brunton Park this week.

Fellow former Bantams Callum Guy, Kelvin Mellor, Jordan Gibson, Joe Riley and Danny Devine are also likely to be involved.

WHAT THE MANAGER SAID

Derek Adams: “They had a good win last week away at Scunthorpe.

“I watched them at Harrogate. They played a strong side and performed really well.

“We will go there coming off a good victory. We want to continue our good form and keep winning games.

“Carlisle have a good pitch and we have got over 1,000 fans following us there, so it should be a good test.”
