New signing Dion Pereira is looking forward to starting life with the Bantams - after joining the club earlier this week - ahead of tomorrow's trip to Carlisle United.

The 22-year-old joins Derek Adams’ squad until the end of the season, signing on loan from Sky Bet Championship outfit Luton Town, and could make his debut at Brunton Park on Saturday.

Pereira confessed his excitement ahead of the prospect of earning his Bantams Heritage number, insisting the expectation at the club sold the move to him.

He said: “I cannot thank the gaffer enough. He has given me the opportunity to prove myself and show the Bradford City supporters what I can do.

“When I spoke to my agent, he told me that there was an average of over 15,000 fans on matchdays. That took me back a little bit.

“If you can do it at Bradford City, you can do it anywhere, because of the size of the club and level of expectation.

“There are a lot of supporters watching you and if you cannot deal with the spotlight and pressure, you are in the wrong job.”

The former Watford prospect also expressed his eagerness to play under City boss Derek Adams, after a recommendation from team-mate and former Morecambe man, Carlos Mendes Gomes.

Pereira - who has also spent time in MLS with Atalanta United - insisted that conversations with Adams helped the move due to Scot’s success with his team-mate.

He added: “I have a teammate at Luton, Carlos Mendes Gomes, who knew the gaffer from Morecambe. That was a big factor in me coming here.

“Seeing how the gaffer put Carlos in positions off the ball to score more goals and get more assists, that is what I wanted.

“We spoke about our plans and hopefully I can score as many goals as I can to help get Bradford City back where we belong.

“Everything the gaffer speaks to me about I take it on board. His experience can only help me develop.”
