WALKER EXPECTING STRONG PRE-SEASON START

1 July 2022

Jamie Walker is looking forward to a return to the field, ahead of tonight's opening pre-season friendly at neighbours Bradford (Park Avenue).

Mark Hughes' new-look City side travel to the Horsfall Community Stadium looking to retain the Tom Banks Memorial Trophy, with action set to get underway from 7.30pm.

The Scottish playmaker, who recently secured his future at the club with an initial two-year deal, is excited for the season ahead and expects the Bantams to “start how they mean to go on”.

He said: “This is why we play football, to play matches.

“It has been a lot of hard work in the week we have had, so I think we have been looking forward to getting back on the pitch.

“We are all keen to get a kick of the ball again, and hopefully we can start pre-season with a win.”

Walker is currently into his first pre-season with the team, after joining City in January, and believes the preparations are instrumental to starting the season strongly.

“Pre-season is all about putting the foundations in place for a successful season,” the Scot added.

“Everyone is buying into what the gaffer wants to do, and working hard.

“Personally, for me, it is important to get a good pre-season under my belt and hit the ground running when the season starts.

“Obviously, there is a lot of fitness work at this stage of the season, but I am sure as pre-season goes on and the games start, the gaffer will put across his ideas more and more, and everyone will be looking forward to that.”

Supporters will be able to PAY ON THE GATE at the Horsfall Community Stadium tonight, with full details HERE. Mark Hughes' men will then jet off to southern Spain for a six-day training camp on Sunday (July 3).
