CITY LADIES WIN LATE AT STOCKPORT

16 March 2022

Bradford City Women came from two goals behind to earn a late 3-2 victory against Stockport County Ladies in the FA Women’s National League North.

A debuting Emma Elliott’s 89th-minute header was enough to help the visitors to pick up all three points in Greater Manchester - and collect their second-straight win.

It was the hosts who broke the deadlock with 14 minutes on the clock when after a promising run was well finished by a County forward.

The home side went close to doubling their advantage but a close-range effort was struck off target.

The Hatters then did add their second with just under half an hour played when after another enterprising run ended with the forward striking the ball past Skye Kirkham.

Chris Hames’ side did manage to pull a goal back before the interval when Hope Knight squared to play Charlotte Stuart in, who simply tapped the ball into an empty net.

City had a penalty appeal on the stroke of half-time when skipper Katy Woodcock went to ground inside the 18-yard box, however the referee waved it away as the Bantams went into the break trailing.

Hames' ladies were not behind for long, though, as early in the second period, the visitors were awarded a spot-kick.

Stuart stepped up to take it and made no mistake in bringing the scores level from 12 yards out.

Steve O’Hara’s side almost went back in front after a swift counter-attack, but the eventual shot was denied by Kirkham.

And, with the game looking destined for a draw, it was the visitors who bagged all three points late on.

Maisie Norde’s free-kick cross was swung into the box and headed in by substitute Emma Elliot, to make sure of her dream debut and hand the Bantams victory.
