OPPOSITION GUIDE: HARTLEPOOL UNITED

15 March 2022

The Bantams will be looking to make it two wins from two away trips under Mark Hughes when they visit Hartlepool for a Sky Bet League Two clash, set for 7.45pm.

Pools have enjoyed a consistent season upon their return to the EFL, having won the same number of games they have lost.

Hartlepool narrowly missed out on the chance to go to Wembley during their first Papa John’s Trophy campaign in four years, suffering penalty heartbreak in their semi-final tie with Championship Rotherham earlier this month.

Pools were responsible for ending City’s unbeaten run at home when the sides met earlier in the season thanks to Mark Cullen, who netted twice.

We have put together an Opposition Guide to give you all the information you need to know about our 37th game of the season.

TRANSFER ACTIVITY

Pools had a busy January transfer window, with seven players moving to Victoria Park - five of which joined on loan.

INCOMINGS: Jake Hull (Rotherham, loan), Marcus Carver (Southport), Isaac Fletcher (Middlesbrough, loan), Omar Bogle (Doncaster), Joe White (Newcastle, loan), Bryn Morris (Burton, loan), Nicholas Bilokapi (Huddersfield, loan).

OUTGOINGS: Matty Daly (Huddersfield, return), Mike Fondop (Oldham, loan), Luke Hendrie (Bradford City).

ONES TO WATCH

Omar Bogle

The experienced Omar Bogle joined the club in January after cancelling his contract with Doncaster by mutual consent.

Bogle boasts a range of experience, having donned the colours of Grimsby, Wigan and Cardiff after graduating from Celtic’s academy.

The 28-year-old has made nine appearances since joining the club in January, scoring three times.

Luke Molyneux

Molyneux is Pools’ top scorer this season, netting seven goals from the wing.

Durham-born Molyneux has spent his career in the North East and joined the club from Sunderland.

The winger has featured in all-bar-one of Pools’ games this season, an impressive feat for a man only turning 24 this month.

Jamie Sterry

Sterry has been an ever-present in the Pools defence this season, and has been since signing in 2020.

The 26-year-old was a key part of Hartlepool’s promotion last term, having gained experience in non-league with South Shields.

Sterry has contributed towards four goal this season, providing three assists while scoring one himself.

CAPTAIN

Club captain Nicky Featherstone has played every minute of the Monkey Hangers' Sky Bet League Two campaign.

Featherstone leads his side from the centre of the park - operating primarily in the No.8 role and has contributed with one goal and one assist in the league.

The Pools skipper is the longest-serving player at the club, having signed for them in 2014.

MANAGER

Graeme Lee was appointed as head coach following Dave Challinor’s departure to join National League side Stockport County.

Lee knows the Monkey Hangers well having played over 250 games in blue and white, helping them earn promotion to the old Second Division in 2003.

City fans will recognise Lee, with the former centre-back having captained the Bantams during the 2008/09 season.
