OPPOSITION GUIDE: SWINDON TOWN

4 March 2022

The Bantams are back at the Utilita Energy Stadium for their third-successive home fixture on Saturday, welcoming Swindon Town for a 3.00pm Sky Bet League Two clash.

Swindon are enjoying an impressive run of form, having scored 12 goals in their last four matches.

The free-scoring Robins currently sit in eighth and are making a case for the automatic-promotion spots, despite last weekend’s loss to Salford City.

It was the Bantams who took all three points at The County Ground thanks to strikes from Caolan Lavery, Levi Sutton and a Goal-of-the-Month-winning effort from Theo Robinson.

We have put together an Opposition Guide to give you all the information you need to know about our 35th opponent of the season.

TRANSFER ACTIVITY

The Robins made a number of changes to their squad in the January window, including the addition of highly-rated Aston Villa youngster Louie Barry.

INCOMINGS: Emmanuel Idem (Derby County), Jake O’Brien (Crystal Palace, loan), Josh Davidson (Charlton, loan), Louie Barry (Aston Villa, loan), Brendan Cooper (Swansea, loan), Joe Tomlinson (Peterborough, loan).

OUTGOINGS: Romoney Crichlow (Recalled, Huddersfield), Anthony Grant (Scunthorpe).

ONES TO WATCH

Jonny Williams

Wales international Jonny Williams signed for the Robins at the start of the season - scoring five goals and providing a further three.

Williams spent his summer at the delayed Euro 2020 tournament with his compatriots, but failed to make an appearance.

The 28-year-old started his career with Crystal Palace and enjoyed a number of loan spells during his time with the Eagles.

Louie Barry

Louie Barry joined the club last month, signing on loan from Aston Villa for the remainder of the season.

Barry started his career with Midlands rivals West Bromwich Albion before making a shock move to Barcelona at the age of 15.

The Youngster returned from La Masia after a year and has since scored three goals in five appearances for the Robins.

Harry McKirdy

The man topping all the Robins’ charts this season, McKirdy has provided more goals and assists than anyone else.

McKirdy has 14 goals to his name this season while providing a further eight for his team-mates.

The 24-year-old started his career with Aston Villa before spells with Carlisle United and Port Vale in Sky Bet League Two.

CAPTAIN

Club captain Dion Conroy joined Swindon from Chelsea in 2017 after graduating from the prestigious Cobham academy, alongside the likes of Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount.

The No.4 leads from behind - often featuring as the central defender in a back three.

Conroy was named club captain at the start of the 2021/22 season after spending four years at the club.

MANAGER

Ben Garner is one of the few managers in the division to have not played professional football.

Head coach Garner took charge at the start of the season, after being relieved of his duties at Bristol Rovers in 2020.

Garner earned his stripes in various coaching roles, most notably at Crystal Palace as a first-team coach and West Brom as assistant head coach.
