YOUNG BANTAMS EARN HARD-FOUGHT WIN

7 November 2022

City’s under-18s earned their first victory of the Premier League Cup group stage, with a hard-fought 1-0 triumph over Crewe Alexandra.

17-year-old Noah Wadsworth scored the game’s only goal as the Young Bantams overcame a tough challenge against category-two opposition.

In was an even first half between, with both sides exchanging possession in the initial stages, it would be City who broke the deadlock at Woodhouse Grove.

A well-worked set-piece found Wadsworth whose effort looped over everyone in the area to find the bottom corner.

The task was to get tougher for the young Bantams as, two minutes after the break, defender Casey Breaks was dismissed after bringing down an advancing Crewe man.

Despite being down to 10, the home side had the better chances to extend their advantage. From a quick break, Freddy Jeffreys fashioned a shot from a tight angle which was well saved by the visiting goalkeeper.

Another counter attack presented City with an opportunity, with Isaac Robinson again denied by the 'keeper.

The young Bantams held out to secure a first victory in the group stage. They now enjoy a week's break before looking ahead to facing Burton Albion, back in EFL Youth Alliance North East action.
