HUGHES AIMS TO BOUNCE BACK AGAINST CRAWLEY

Mark Hughes hopes his side can use Tuesday’s setbacks as motivation for when City host Crawley Town at the University of Bradford Stadium on Saturday.

Hughes feels the Bantams can still improve on performances from their recent challenges, and believes the components are coming together within the squad to impose a threat in Sky Bet League Two.

He said: “We can take confidence from Tuesday, because we did play great football at times.

“Against Grimsby and Salford, and against Swindon, we played some good stuff, so we aim to take that into Saturday.

“We need to keep moving in the right direction. We had great support on Tuesday, and being at home on Saturday, we hope we can get across the line this time.

“The side can always improve, but we are seeing more and more of the elements we work on every day.

“We want to be on the front foot and dictate to the opposition, so we are pleased we are starting to see that integrated in the play.”

With his side sat within the play-off spots in Sky Bet League Two, Hughes is pleased with City's overall performance and, despite minor setbacks, believes the Bantams can only mature and continue to improve.

The Welshman expects a tough encounter against Crawley, who are unbeaten in four after a change in manager, but stressed the importance of keeping standards high as the Bantams look to return to winning ways.

“I am pleased with the start we have made to this season,” the Bantams boss added.

“We started with a new squad, so to integrate them fully takes time.

“Some of the results have been a little harder to take, and Tuesday was an example of that, but where we are now, we can be happy.

“Crawley have had a slight pick-up in results. It would have been easier playing them a few weeks ago, but it is all about us, and what we can do.

“We have to keep our levels really high. They are a side that likes to play with the ball on the ground, and we back ourselves against that standard of team.

“It is about how we impose our play on them and not the other way around. We are looking forward to it and, hopefully, we can get the three points.”
