Mark Hughes was pleased with how his side responded after going behind early but ultimately coming away with all three points in the Bantams' return to the University of Bradford Stadium, with a 2-1 victory over Colchester United.

The Bantams boss was pleased with the reaction and with how City continued to play on the front foot despite being behind, not letting their heads drop after a mistake led to the visitors' goal.

“We were doing the right thing, we just made a mistake,” Hughes said.

“It was the response I was really pleased with. We got on the front foot and caused them problems.

“We started brightly. Our play was good and we got on the front foot - just how we wanted to play.

“We shrugged (the goal) off and got on with our business. It shows the character in the group. I was really pleased to see that reaction and get back in the game.”

The Welshman was glad to see two of his new signings get their first goals for the club. Clarke Oduor's headed effort put the Bantams back on level terms, whilst Alex Pattison’s second-half strike gave City all three points.

Hughes believes his side will only go from strength to strength, and was buoyed by the backing his Bantams received from the City faithful this afternoon, ahead of Tuesday's trip to Stockport.

He added: “It is important for them. Many fans will not have seen them live yet. I think they will be pleased with what they saw.

“They (Pattison and Oduor) were excellent, along with the rest of the lads. As the season goes on, they will only get stronger.

“The crowd was great today. They stayed with us and really got behind all of the lads. I could tell that they were really enjoying what they were seeing.

“Tuesday is an important fixture against a good team, and we have to prepare quickly.

“We have to be at our best. I sense we are enjoying how we are playing, and there is a real anticipation to get back out there.”
