Jamie Walker was pleased with the Bantams' performance following their 2-0 victory away to Gillingham at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium.

City’s No.7 opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark, and he praised the overall showing from the side, especially from a defensive point of view, as they were able to keep their fourth-consecutive clean sheet.

“I was delighted with the performance,” he said.

“Gillingham is not a easy place to visit, but getting three points on the road, a clean sheet and a goal for myself, makes it a very pleasing performance.

“They had a lot of set-pieces. Harry (Lewis) commanded his area very well and the defenders were fantastic today.

“Thankfully me and Andy (Cook) did our job at the other end to get the win. It is a long journey home but the three points make it more than worthwhile.”

The 30-year-old spoke about the depth the side currently has, which is creating a healthy competition within the squad, keeping focus and concentration levels high as the Bantams enter the festive period of fixtures.

The Scot was happy to get back out on the field following last week’s postponed game against Salford City, and hopes the Bantams can take the momentum they have built into Friday's game where City travel to the Eco-Power Stadium to face Doncaster Rovers.

“It is healthy competition,” Walker added.

“Harry Chapman and Bobby (Pointon) did not even make the bench today. They are two quality players, and that shows the quality within the side.

“Ash (Taylor) was out today, and we had players who could come in and our performance levels did not drop.

“The most important thing was that we came away with a win and that is what you want as a group.

“With the way we are playing, we just want to get back out on the pitch. Last week was disappointing with the game being postponed, but we were happy to be out there today.

“I am looking forward to Friday night. We will take a good following there with the fans and they will bring a good atmosphere.

“It is up to us to keep doing the right things every game, hopefully we continue to do that on Friday and come away with a win.”
