CITY CRUISE INTO LAST 16

5 December 2023

City progressed into the round of 16 of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Liverpool Under-21s.

Tyler Smith gave the Bantams the opener just seven minutes into the game, while the visitors were reduced to 10 players just after the half-hour mark.

City completed their victory with second-half goals from Andy Cook, Vadaine Oliver and Tyler Smith, as Graham Alexander’s men recorded four-straight wins in all competitions.

The Bantams had the ball in the back of the net inside the first five minutes, but Andy Cook was adjudged to be in an offside position during the build-up, which cancelled out a nice Jamie Walker finish.

Just two minutes later, however, City had now taken the lead. It was Cook again who nodded the ball down to Smith, and he smashed in from close range.

Just after the half-hour mark, Alexander's side was given a numerical advantage. The visitors were reduced to 10 players as Lewis Koumas was sent off for a late challenge on Ciarán Kelly.

City came out for the second period with a renewed intent and doubled their lead four minutes after the restart.

Cook did well to wrestle past Amara Nallo after receiving the ball from Smith, and slotted into the bottom corner with his left foot.

The hosts thought they had a third minutes later after Lewis Richards beat his man well and powered a low cross across the box, but Cook could not rearrange his feet in time and his effort rolled wide.

The Bantams did find their deserved third in the 64th minute as Vadaine Oliver netted his first goal after returning from a long stint on the sidelines.

He tapped home the rebound off Fabian Mrozek after a Richie Smallwood shot from 30 yards out could only be parried in his direction.

And, after an audacious Oliver overhead kick flew narrowly over, City battled for their fourth, which came deep into stoppage time.

Tyler Smith latched onto a dinked ball in behind and shot low into the back of the net to round off another impressive performance, as City marched into the northern quarter-finals.
