CLUB STATEMENT: WOMEN'S COUNTY CUP

11 December 2023

The West Riding County FA have today charged Bradford City Women with fielding an ineligible player in the West Riding County Cup second-round fixture against Silsden Ladies, on November 26.

West Riding County FA have alleged that the player in question was not eligible to play due to not being registered seven days prior to the fixture and having to have played a competitive fixture for the club.

However, the club would like to place on record the mitigation that was delivered as part of the hearing earlier this morning:

In January 2022, Bradford City AFC Women played against Yorkshire Amateurs in the second round of the West Riding County Cup. Prior to this fixture, we signed three players who had not featured in a competitive fixture for the club, to play in the game. We checked with the West Riding County FA prior to doing so and we were informed they were eligible to play.

As part of today's hearing, the West Riding County FA County Cup discipline team informed us that the West Riding County FA should not have given us this information, as it was incorrect.

Chair Qasim Akhtar said: "We are extremely disappointed with the outcome of today's hearing.

"Despite the evidence provided and the information that was given to us by the West Riding County FA for our fixture against Yorkshire Amateurs in 2022, we appear to have been punished for a lack of clarity in the rulings. We will be appealing the decision, and will keep supporters updated with the progress of the appeal."
