Mark Hughes was pleased with his side’s controlled performance, as the Bantams extended their unbeaten run away from home to five matches with a comprehensive 2-0 win over Gillingham.

The City boss praised a balanced display and hopes his men can “keep this run going”, as the Bantams re-entered Sky Bet League Two’s play-off places.

“We are delighted,” he said.

“We have to keep it going. There is another big game at the weekend, which we are looking forward to.

“We spoke a lot about control and the importance of being measured. We managed the game really well.

“We never really felt we were under too much pressure. They were close to affecting us at the end, but our substitutes eliminated that.

“We are at the point in the season where we are trending really strongly.

“We just have to keep this run going on for long as we can. We are playing well and everyone is full of confidence.

“There were lot of big performances from everybody.”

The Welshman lauded his side’s counter-attacking style which caused Gillingham problems, as was also satisfied with how City's versatility helped to see out another clean sheet and the three points.

Hughes hopes to utilise Saturday’s bumper attendance at home to Colchester United, and believes it is paramount to atone for recent “false dawns” at the University of Bradford Stadium.

He added: “We were a threat on the break.”

“They go very direct and we spoke about how they put a lot of men forward, so it was important to get on the end of loose balls.

“We caused them a lot of problems on the counter, which was just a consequence of playing those first-time passes.

“I think change helped us in the game. You always have to make changes that help you, and it was clear that they were going to be more direct in the last 20 minutes.

“It is good that we could put a little more strength on, but we have a lot of good options which help us see out games.

“It is important we kick on at the weekend. We have had a few false dawns at home, and fallen short a little bit.

“I hope that does not happen again. We want to do something special this weekend, and this season, and we are expecting another huge crowd, so are looking forward to it.”
