Ciarán Kelly was happy to have come away with all three points in a hard-fought 1-0 victory at the University of Bradford Stadium against Accrington Stanley.

City’s No.18 knew the Bantams overcame a tough game yesterday, but how he and his teammates responded and dealt with their opposition was pleasing, claiming every player dug in to claim a important three points.

The centre-back discussed the importance of the team working as one to keep the clean sheet, admitting it starts with players in forward positions.

He said: “It was a tough game against a good side. We are happy with the win.

“It was important that we all dug in and fought for the three points.

“Everyone was excellent. The defence starts from the front - from (Andy) Cooky and Tyler (Smith).

“Then goes the midfield, and then into us. As defenders, we love getting a clean sheets, and we managed to accomplish that, so we are very happy.”

The 25-year old praised the work Graham Alexander has done in the little time he has had in the dugout as the new Bantams boss, admitting training has been hard, but results like this make it worthwhile.

The Irishman is looking to continue the hard work in the time the Bantams have between now and their next game on Tuesday, where the Bantams travel to The New Lawn stadium to face Forest Green.

“Training has been tough, but great,” Kelly added.

“A lot of hard work, but that is what you need to get results. I feel it is all starting to click.

“The manager is new in, so it is all about getting to know the players and the formations. There has been plenty of work that we have to continue to do on the training pitch.

“I do not think there will be much rest. There will be a lot of hard work on the training pitch, getting things right going forward.

“Hopefully, we can get a good run of wins and a good run of form going.”
