Matty Platt was pleased to have scored his first goal in a City shirt, as the Bantams ran out 5-1 victors over Barnsley in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.

Platt scored after just two minutes, which would end up being the first of five goals as Graham Alexander's men topped Northern Group F to secure a home tie in the first knockout round.

The defender hopes they can take confidence from the result, into their upcoming fixtures.

“Getting my first goal is great on a personal level,” he said.

“But getting the result is the main thing, and we managed to do that as well.

“No matter what competition we are playing in, we want to win.

“We have done that tonight, and hopefully we can take some confidence from it going forward.”

Platt hopes games like this where players from all over the pitch chip in with goals become a more regular thing.

“Last season, scoring goals all over the pitch was something we had a problem with,” he added.

“That was definitely something we wanted to improve on this season.

“If us defenders and midfielders can chip in with goals, that can only be a good thing.

“Last year, I probably should have had a few goals myself.

“(Harry) Chappy put a brilliant ball in, and I just had to get a little touch on it.”
