Tyler Smith felt pride after netting his first City hat-trick in the Bantams' 3-0 EFL Trophy Northern Group F victory over Manchester City Under-21s.

The Bantams’ No.14 thanked the support of his teammates for the service as City secured their spot in round two of the EFL Trophy.

“I feel really good after that,” he said.

“I could feel it was coming, and tonight was the night for me to show what I am capable of.

“It was a good workout for the lads. The goals, the link-up play and the defensive work rounded off a good win, and we are in the next round.

“The way their defence set up suited me very well.

“Everything fell for me tonight, but credit to the whole team - the delivery in behind were fantastic.

“It is nice when you are making the movement up top, and the team can find you. It breeds confidence across the whole team.

“It is important, because without the service, my job is a lot harder.

“Everything was good for me tonight and it was a good result for team.”

The striker, who netted his first goals at the University of Bradford Stadium, feels City can take pride in how they dispatched their academy opposition, when at times they kept the ball from the Bantams.

Smith lastly lauded the work of Kevin McDonald following his final game as caretaker player-manager and admitted he “reinstalled the belief” in BD8, and is looking forward to welcoming him back to the dressing room, ahead of Saturday’s visit of Wycombe Wanderers in the Emirates FA Cup first round.

“Man City were good at keeping possession, but they never really hurt us with it,” he added.

“We were happy with them keeping the ball. They made some decent passes but we dealt with it comfortably.

“We can proud of how we dispatched them tonight.

“It has been very good under Kev. He has reinstalled the belief and freedom to express ourselves and we can be grateful for that.

“Everyone has worked for him and we will welcome him back to the changing room on Thursday.”
