The Bantams fell to defeat on the road, losing 2-1 at Sutton United.

Kevin McDonald’s men went behind early thanks to a Josh Coley strike but after a slow first half, they came out fighting and would equalise via Andy Cook.

But it was not to be for City, as a late winner headed in by home captain Harry Beautyman gave Sutton all three points.

It was not an ideal start for the Bantams, as just four minutes into the game they found themselves a goal down.

Josh Coley got in behind the visitors' defence and beat Harry Lewis at his near post to put City on the back foot.

McDonald's men had been looking threatening from set-pieces all afternoon, and after a slow opening period, they came out for the second half with added impetus and intent.

Andy Cook was able to capitalise on a corner in the 57th minute to drag City level, as he met Clarke Oduor's inswinging delivery to nod home.

Minutes later, Cook had almost added to his tally a further two times, as the Bantams looked to spin the tie on its head.

First, he snuffed out a loose backpass but home goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis just beat him to the ball, before shortly after, it fell to him kindly and he hit a sweet volley which cannoned off the crossbar.

City had grown into the game in the second half, and were the side looking for the winner as it entered its final half hour.

Another good chance for the Bantams came in the 68th minute. Neat trickery from Emmanuel Osadebe saw him beat two Sutton defenders and reach the byline. He drilled a ball across the 'keeper but Cook could not turn his header on target.

Despite City's advances, it was Sutton who would find the winning goal as the game ticked into its final few minutes.

Harry Beautyman angled a header into the bottom corner past Harry Lewis' despairing dive with just three minutes of normal time remaining, to leave City empty handed.
