McDONALD: 'WE HAVE TO BE BETTER'

Kevin McDonald admitted the Bantams have to be better, following last night's 4-1 defeat at the hands of MK Dons.

Despite Alex Gilliead's goal dragging City back on level terms 17 minutes in, MK rallied to score another three goals, leaving McDonald's side well beaten.

City’s caretaker player-manager - who started himself in midfield in skipper Richie Smallwood's absence through suspension - did praise the opposition and how they played, but felt he and his teammates fell short of their standards, describing a tough evening for all involved.

“We have set a standard and we fell below those standards,” McDonald said.

“We expect better and the fans expect better, the fans deserve better.

“They are a good team, they had lovely patterns of play, they played through us sometimes and they are a good side.

“Sometimes, we were caught in the press and staying compact, but they did well to play through us at times.

“Credit to them, because they played some nice stuff. It was a tough evening for us.”

The 34-year old looked to take positives from the defeat, as he felt when his players did the right things, good things came from it.

The Scot is looking ahead to another long away trip to face Sutton United on Saturday, and has called for his team to right the wrongs of last night's performance.

“We have done well these last few games, I will not go too deep into (the defeat),” he added.

“We were beaten on the evening, and we were not at the level we have been at in recent games. When we pressed well, we got a lot of joy from it.

“There were positives to take from the game, but we were not good enough.

“It is a game of football and we have been beaten. We have set a standard and we fell below that.

“We know it was not good enough and we will look to rectify that on Saturday, and we are happy that the games are coming thick and fast.

“We will not accept performances like that, and we will be ready to go for Saturday.”
