BANTAMS SNATCH POINT LATE ON

16 September 2023

City came from behind to take a point in this afternoon’s Sky Bet League Two 1-1 draw against Harrogate Town.

After going a goal down with less than 15 minutes to go, a stoppage-time Jamie Walker header rescued a point for the Bantams.

The hosts started the game the stronger of the two teams with a lot of sustained possession. The first chance fell to Walker in the 20th minute, whose shot spun just outside the post.

Lewis Richards saw a powerful half-volley fly over the bar in the 36th minute as the ball fell kindly to him just inside the box, before Walker - who had started brightly at a windy Valley Parade - saw another shot saved just before the break.

City were certainly dominating going into the interval, with Harrogate limited to minimal counter attacking chances.

The first opportunity after the break fell to the feet of Clarke Oduor, as City looked for the opener. He shifted his body left then right to create some space to shoot, but it flew past the post.

Chisom Afoka, who was making his first league start in claret and amber, did well to beat his man down the left-hand side and deliver a good ball into the box. Walker hit it on the half volley but it bobbled wide of the post.

City were pushing to get the opening goal. Afoka threatened again and beat his defender to get a shot off, though it was palmed away by Mark Oxley in the Harrogate net.

In the 78th minute however, Harrogate took the lead against the run of play.

After the ball bounced around the City area, Matty Daly tapped into the back of Harry Lewis' net.

Mark Hughes' men pushed for an equaliser deep into stoppage time, and and would eventually find it in the 95th minute of the game.

Walker latched onto a Brad Halliday free-kick and nodded the ball over Oxley to draw the game level, and rescue a point.
