City’s under-19s dominated at the Horsfall Community Stadium, as they defeated Notts County 5-0 in the EFL Youth Alliance North East.
Another two goals from top goalscorer Harry Ibbitson were added to by strikes from Donald Kamwa, Gabriel Wadsworth and substitute Eni Rotimi to cap an impressive display and seal an emphatic win.
The Bantams made an incredibly fast start to proceedings. Almost directly from kick-off, Kamwa was causing problems down the left wing. Fast feet and fancy skill got him around his man, giving him time to pick out Ibbitson. Yet, the No.9 was pushed from behind six yards out before he could get his shot off, handing City a penalty.
Ibbitson stood confidently and dispatched his spot-kick into the bottom-left corner, giving Ryan Farrell’s side an early lead.
Twenty minutes in, Ibbitson had a good chance to double his tally for the afternoon. A deflected pass broke through Notts County’s defensive line on the right side of the area. Ibbitson struck a shot on target, but it was well held by the goalkeeper.
The City frontman was hungry for goals and following a disallowed tap-in, he bagged a stunning volley, for his and his side’s second. A looping ball into the box from Mo Sedibeh was met by the boot of Ibbitson as he rifled an immense scissor kick into the back of the net to make it 2-0.
Moments later, the lively Kamwa almost added to the rapidly increasing scoreline. From 20 yards out, he curled an effort towards goal, but the County ‘keeper was equal to it, palming it away from danger.
With 68 minutes on the clock, Kamwa got his name on the scoresheet. He collected a slipped through ball from Gabe Wadsworth and, under no pressure, thundered the ball home from close range.
Kamwa and Wadsworth then swapped roles for City’s fourth. Captain Wadsworth flicked the ball around the corner for Kamwa to burst on to. After holding it up, he played it back into Wadsworth’s feet and the midfielder had no issue applying the finishing touch, to grab a deserved goal.
The young Bantams had no intent to slow down, and capped of a terrific display with a finish from substitute Eni Rotimi, who put the cherry on the cake.
Mo Sedibeh set off on a lung-bursting run down the left wing, darting into the box. He played a low cross into the feet of Rotimi who had the easy job of tucking the ball away from two yards out, to round off a strong afternoon’s work.
