Jamie Walker is hoping the Bantams can make a return to winning ways, as they face the long trip across the Welsh border to Newport County on Saturday.
The Scot, who headed a late equaliser against Harrogate Town last Saturday, detailed the work City have been putting in this week, in order to get the three points in South Wales.
The No.10 recognises this week’s attacking focus ahead of the visit to Rodney Parade, and without last season’s top goalscorer Andy Cook, Walker notes how he and his teammates can be more clinical in the final third.
“We have been working on stuff this week to make sure we have a better chance of getting three points,” he said.
“A lot of work has been going into final-third play and hopefully we can use it to our advantage on Saturday.
“There has been a collective improvement defensively, and how the attackers have been tracking back, but that collective effort has to be applied in offensive areas too.
“We need more players in the box and the full-backs adding more width. We have been working on a few other things too, but if we can do that, we will create a lot more.
“Naturally, we miss someone of Andy (Cook)'s quality, because he is a threat against any opponent.
“But, we have still players who can cause problems, so it is about being that little bit more clever in those areas of our play.”
Reflecting on Saturday’s draw against Harrogate, Walker surmised that the general disappointment derived from dropping points at home, but anticipates a reaction in Wales.
The former Hearts midfielder assessed City’s hosts and encouraged the Bantams to focus their energy on causing Newport problems in all areas of the pitch.
“Last Saturday was a strange game for me, to be honest,” Walker admitted.
“I had a lot of the ball, especially in the first half, and I created a lot of chances.
“When you combine that with scoring in the last minute, you normally feel quite good about yourself, but we felt we could have taken a lot more from the game.
“Generally, I was happy with my performance, but as a team we need to be a lot better at home.
“That is where the majority of the disappointment comes from, because we know how important our home form is.
“We can use this as experience, though, and hopefully we can put it right on Saturday.
“In this league, you can never tell how a game is going to pan out.
“We have seen how many Newport have scored this season, so we need to be solid defensively.
“We will look at how we can be a threat against them and hopefully get the three points.”
