ALEXANDER PRAISES MENTALITY

26 April 2024

Graham Alexander wants his side's strong mentality to continue into the weekend, as they host Newport County in their final regular league game of the season.

City go into the clash with the potential of securing a play-off berth with a win, provided results go their way, after four-consecutive victories.

The Bantams boss is proud of the way his players are handling themselves in adverse situations, especially the more senior players stepping up and leading.

“We will talk to the players,” he said.

“It will be a lot of players' first time going into a game like this, where it can depend on other results.

“But we also have good experienced players in the dressing room that can talk to the others and keep their heads down.

“I heard that straight after the game on Tuesday, Richie [Smallwood] and a few others were speaking about what they have to do in the dressing room.

“That is when you know you are getting an environment and a culture that is in the right fashion.”

Alexander has been pleased by the winning mentality his side has displayed in recent weeks, after coming from behind in multiple games to earn points.

Mentality is a very important factor to him, and something he has tried to cultivate as City manager.

“It is a balance,” he added.

“I talk about the need for feeling good about ourselves after a game, so it is important that you enjoy a win.

“You need that emotive state to be the catalyst, you want to feel like that again.

“But you also have to understand there is a timescale for that, and it is onto the next challenge.

“The only place you can get this consistency is in your mind.”
