Graham Alexander felt his side deserved more from today’s 1-0 defeat away to Crewe Alexandra in Sky Bet League Two.
The City chief was disappointed not to come away from this one with anything, after he thought his side played well enough to deserve a result.
“I am gutted for the team,” he said.
“We conceded a pretty poor penalty, we just switched off, but for the rest of the game I thought we dominated.
“We got into some brilliant positions but just could not get that equaliser.
“To be honest, I would have been disappointed if we had got a draw.
“You want to get what you deserve in football, and today I thought we deserved three points.
“I said at half-time I have not got much we can improve on at that stage.
“We just could not find that killer touch.”
Alexander is proud of the effort his players have put in over a busy festive period, where they had accrued an eight-match unbeaten run.
“It is the end of a tough week, with three games in eight days,” he added.
“I know the supporters understand that, and even though we have been beaten they can see the commitment these players are making.
“Unfortunately, today, we have given them something out of nothing with the penalty, and it has cost us.”
