BANTAMS AND SALFORD PLAY OUT DRAW

23 January 2024

The Bantams shared a 1-1 draw with visitors Salford City in a rearranged Sky Bet League Two clash at the University of Bradford Stadium.

Salford took the lead thanks to Ryan Watson just before the quarter-of-an-hour mark, but just six minutes later Brad Halliday tapped home from close range to bring the game level.

After City had started the brighter of the two sides, it took until just the 14th minute for the opening goal to be scored, but it went the way of the visitors.

Junior Luamba drove through the City defence and forced a strong initial save by Sam Walker, however the ball came back out for Watson who finished low into the bottom corner.

But it took just six minutes for City to respond, and restore parity.

It was a rebounded goal of the Bantams' own as Alex Gilliead’s drove into space before his initial effort cannoned back off the post, falling to the feet of the onrushing Halliday who made no mistake and tapped the ball into the empty net.

Tyreik Wright went close with a backheel after some neat footwork from Clarke Oduor just after, as City looked to quickly turn the score on its head.

Graham Alexander's side started the second half brightly, with Wright breaking through within a minute of the restart, but his effort was easily saved by Alex Cairns.

Wright nearly got on the scoresheet again moments later, after he was played through again, this time by Alex Gilliead. But he snatched at his effort which bounced narrowly wide.

The game still hung in the balance, with Salford's Luke Bolton going close in the 66th minute as he cut inside and drove a low effort just past the post.

City substitute Harry Chapman forced a strong save from Cairns on the 70th-minute mark with a low, driven effort and the Bantams nearly turned in the resulting corner, but Cairns again could gather the ball after it had pinballed around the six-yard box.

City pushed for a winner, but it never came, as the points were shared.
