SMALLWOOD: ‘WE CAN BE SUCCESSFUL’

Skipper Richie Smallwood insists City can still enjoy a successful campaign and reach their goals, ahead of Crawley Town's trip to the University of Bradford Stadium tomorrow.

The Bantams midfielder spoke of the confidence the side have built over the past few months, in particular when embarking on an eight-game unbeaten run, but admits focus remains on continuing to improve.

“Absolutely, we can be successful,” Smallwood said.

“We are within touching distance of the play-offs, and hopefully the momentum we have built up can take us there and possibly further.

“Our confidence has grown game by game. We feel like, going into every game, we can win. We feel like we can create chances, score goals and keep clean sheets. Confidence is high within the squad.

“Unfortunately, we could not get over the line at Crewe, but we will go again.”

City’s No.6 praised the work done by Graham Alexander since his arrival at the University of Bradford Stadium, stating he has helped the side but also helped him when it comes to playing to the strengths he has on the pitch.

The 33-year old says the Bantams want to get back on track ahead of tomorrow’s clash, taking the fixture schedule game by game in their attempts to continue climbing the table.

“It is a style of play that suits me,” he added.

“The gaffer has simplified our game. We have gone back to the basics, the players know what is expected of them at all times, and that comes from the training pitch.

“When we do things right on the training pitch, we can repeat them on the pitch. Sometimes, you can come away from the basics, but they have done us well.

“We take every game, game by game. We have a lot of games coming up, meaning there are a lot of points to play for.

“It does not matter who we have against us - we take each and every game as it comes.

“Whether it is our upcoming games against Colchester, or our game on Saturday against Crawley, we will go into it looking to come away with three points.”
