Ash Taylor praised the Bantams’ shape and discipline as they overcame Derby County 1-0 in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy Round of 16 at Pride Park.

As well as dissecting the performance and magnitude of the result against Sky Bet League One opposition, the centre-half added City were not intimidated by the Derbyshire outfit and solely focused on their own output.

“I feel brilliant,” he said.

“Our shape was good and we were very well disciplined.

“We deserved the goal in the second half, and the result as a whole.

“It feels very good to get the clean sheet against a top side.

“You want to test yourself against teams above you.

“When you look at the size of Derby and the bags of talent they have, not just on the pitch, but on the sidelines too, we can definitely pat ourselves on the back, and take momentum from it.

“The stadium does not intimidate us - I do not think it even impacted us to be honest.

“We are used to it, week in, week out, when we play at home.

“You try and block out what is around you sometimes, and that makes it easier to concentrate.

“Of course, it is nice to get the win in a place like this, and to get the clean sheet is like the icing on the cake.”

The defender spoke of his pride and delight seeing the travelling support in Derby last night, thanking the City faithful for their backing, and aims to repeat the success against Colchester United on Saturday.

Taylor acknowledged results have not been perhaps what the Bantams have deserved of late, but is looking to bounce back in Essex.

“It always makes us proud seeing how many have travelled to see us,” Taylor added.

“They back us every week and help us across the line, so I just want to thank them.

“On a Tuesday night, in this weather, the aim was to send them home happy, and we did that.

“We will not stop doing that. There is another away game on Saturday, so we will try and repeat that.

“The results have not been good but the performances have mainly been there.

“We have been solid in each of the games recently. We have had a little blip, but we are back now with a solid result tonight.

“We have to keep it up and get another positive result on Saturday.”
