The Bantams booked their place in the prized third round draw of this season's Emirates FA Cup after success over Plymouth Argyle this Saturday in an entertaining tie at the Northern Commercials Stadium.

Goals from Romain Vincelot, Nathaniel Knight-Percival and Charlie Wyke proved enough to secure a 3-1 win and safe passage into the next round for Stuart McCall's men.

Vincelot opened the scoring for City six minutes before the break when he rose highest to power home a header from Tony McMahon's right-wing cross.

For Vincelot, the goal was his fifth of the season already - all of which have come via headers.

The skipper's opener had come after a brilliant double save from Plymouth 'keeper Luke McCormick earlier in the half denied both Alex Gilliead and Wyke.

McCormick's showed good reflexes to repel Gilliead's deflected drive from the edge of area. Wyke still looked favourite to fire home the loose ball from close range but McCormick flung up an arm to somehow block the effort away.

Plymouth had enjoyed their own openings in the first period, with the vast majority of them falling to Jake Jervis.

Arguably Jervis' best opening came roughly ten minutes before the break when he intercepted McMahon's attempted header back to Rouven Sattelmaier.

With Sattelmaier out of his goal, Jervis tried to loft the ball over the German and into the net but his looping first time header from the edge of the box dropped wide of the post.

Minutes earlier, Jervis had forced a good save from Sattelmaier following a low drive from the striker from inside the area.

Despite Plymouth's best efforts in the opening period though, City soon found themselves two goals to the good early after the restart.

Vincelot volleyed back into mix as Plymouth tried to clear a McMahon corner just five minutes into the second period, and the ball deflected off Knight-Percival and into the corner of the goal.

The Pilgrims got a goal back just past the hour mark via their own deflected goal, Graham Carey's angled drive from inside the box taking a touch off McMahon as it flew past Sattelmaier and into the far corner.

The Bantams responded less than a minute later, however, when Wyke tapped home from barely a yard out after McCormick had let a low cross into the six yard box from Gilliead squirm through his grasp.

Following Wyke's goal, though, there was the slightly worrying sight of Jake Reeves limping off with a tweaked groin. Fingers crossed it isn't too bad for the midfielder.

With nothing to lose, Plymouth pushed more men forward in the latter stages.

Toumani Diargouraga twice went close and Joel Grant saw an effort deflect wide, but it actually the Bantams who enjoyed the better openings towards the end of the game.

Tyrell Robinson, who started the game at left back, saw a shot saved by McCormick after he'd burst clear following Paul Taylor's through-ball.

Substitute Dominic Poleon was then denied from just yards out minutes later by the out-stretched boot of Jervis as the City striker looked to tap home following McCormick's save from a Wyke shot.

As City sprung forward on another attack two minutes from the end, Nicky Law sent a looping half-volley narrowly wide from the edge of the box.

Gilliead had the final effort for goal of the game deep into injury time - McCormick scrambling across to gather up the shot - as City confirmed their place in Monday's draw alongside the country's Premier League and Championship sides.
