City’s skipper, Richie signed for the Bantams in July 2022 following the expiry of his contract at Sky Bet Championship side Hull City.
Naturally a deep-lying midfielder, Smallwood graduated from Middlesbrough’s academy and featured 60 times for his boyhood Boro.
A loan spell at Rotherham was made permanent in 2014, and in three years with the Millers, he made over 100 appearances, scoring three times.
The experienced midfielder, who has now made over 400 career appearances, enjoyed lengthy spells at Blackburn and Hull City, where he took the captaincy role in black and amber.
After achieving survival status with the Tigers in the 2021/22 Championship season, Smallwood joined City in July 2022, where he led the Bantams to a play-off finish.
