Levi Sutton was pleased with the way the Bantams “controlled” their 2-0 pre-season triumph over Sky Bet League One side Doncaster Rovers.

A first-half penalty from Abo Eisa and a second-half Andy Cook strike earned City victory at the Utilita Energy Stadium.

The midfielder praised the way his team-mates performed on the day, and also touched on his delight at playing in front of over 1,000 supporters - who returned to Valley Parade for the first time since March 2020.

He said: “We controlled the game really well, which was encouraging to see.

“Every player put in a great shift, which is exactly what pre-season is about. We are all continuing to work our way up to full fitness.

“Of course, getting to play and win in front of some of our supporters was also amazing.

“Hopefully, now, we can continue to win games and build momentum towards the first game of the season.”

Sutton also admitted his delight at playing the full 90 minutes in the contest.

The 24-year-old was the only member of City’s matchday squad to have played the entire duration of the game and believes getting plenty of minutes on the pitch is valuable at this stage of pre-season.

He added: “It is always challenging when you first return from a break, but with the amount of games we have coming up, all of us need to make sure we are continuing to work hard.

“It was great to get a full 90 minutes under my belt, especially this early on in pre-season.

“At this stage, getting up to full fitness is vital and the more game time we all get, then the more likely we are to get to the required level.”

Sutton and his team-mates are next in action at Guiseley on Tuesday evening (7.30pm). CLICK HERE to purchase tickets.
